From a refugee camp in Austria to political asylum from the Swiss government, from factory worker to film-maker and professor, Vladimir Kabelik has seen it all in a life he re-started after escaping from Czechoslovakia and making his way to Canada 32 years ago.
The Masters-educated film director arrived here with nine paper boxes, a wife, and two little boys. At the end of June, ” Vlad” retires after a 30 year teaching/coordinating career at Sheridan along with numerous credits for his work as a documentary director. Not bad for a guy who spoke little English when he arrived in Canada.
Now it’s time to celebrate. FAAD and Faculty in the Department of Film, Television and Journalism invite you to attend a reception to acknowledge Vlad’s incredible contributions to Sheridan and the students he has mentored over the years.
