On Friday, May 30 two of the most decorated head coaches in Sheridan history were enshrined in the North Park Secondary School Hall of Fame. Former men’s volleyball head coach Paul Reader and current men’s basketball head coach Jim Flack were recognized by the Brampton school at which they both taught.

“It was certainly a tremendous honour for me personally, but I’m also very proud about the inclusion of of two Sheridan coaches as well,” Flack said. “I often reflect quite fondly upon my days as a teacher and there is no doubt that those days also played a critical role in shaping the coach and, more importantly, the person I am today. I would also like to think that it’s a recognition of the level of impact our Bruin basketball and volleyball programs have had on a great number of student-athletes, as well as the regions of Peel and Halton at large.”

Paul Reader taught at North Park for 18 years and during that time he founded the volleyball program. He was also the head coach of the Sheridan men’s volleyball team for 14 years, overseeing one of the most successful sport programs in OCAA history. Under his guidance, the Sheridan Bruins men’s volleyball team won seven OCAA championships and four national medals in 12 years, including a gold medal at the CCAA championship in 1983. He was part of the first induction class of the Sheridan Bruins Hall of Fame in 2000.

Jim Flack taught at North Park between the years of 1990 and 2000, where he spent most of his time in the History and Co-Operative Education departments. While at North Park, he coached a variety of teams including Junior and Senior Boys Basketball, Varsity Baseball and Track and Field. In 22 years as a head coach in the OCAA, he has an overall winning percentage of .733 and .800 in OCAA conference play. He has won seven OCAA championships and a combined total of 19 OCAA and CCAA medals. His teams have proven to be a consistent threat to win the league having finished first in their division 10 times, dropping out of the two only four times, and never lower than fourth. Flack is a nine-time OCAA Division coach of the year and was named the CCAA National Coach of the Year during the 2001-02 season.
