Library and Learning Services is very happy to announce that Claire Wollen will be the new Faculty of Business Liaison Librarian. The position became open when Susan Shepley accepted the new position of Scholarly Engagement and Applied Research Liaison Librarian. Claire will be transitioning from her role as FCAPS Liaison Librarian.
In the FCAPS Liaison role, Claire researched and authored e-newsletters to inform students, teaching faculty and FCAPS management of trends and key resources in their fields of study. She was also appointed to the FCAPS Strategic Planning team. Based on her technical competency, Claire was invited to join the working group for the eLearning policy at Sheridan and played an active role in the FCAPS Online Course Development Project Team.
Claire has over twenty years of experience from across public, special and academic libraries. Claire arrived at Sheridan in the summer of 2013 from the Rotman School of Management, Business Information Centre at the University of Toronto where she acted as Public Services Librarian for one year and as Business Librarian for four years. At U of T, she provided library instruction and delivered reference and research services, both in-person and also on various platforms (including the LMS) to students. During this period, Claire was seconded to the Centre for Industrial Relations and Human Resources where among her instruction and reference duties, she also prepared a weekly e-publication delivered to more than 1,000 subscribers that outlined for faculty, the latest research in their field of study. At Rotman, she was able to apply her business research expertise culled from her years as a Business Analyst for Westcoast Energy.
When working at Torstar, Claire launched Pages of the Past, a digitized newspaper page product as well as three web sites to promote the photo archive and handled licensing agreements with database vendors including LexisNexis, Factiva, ProQuest, EBSCO, FPInfomart and Dialog. The Pages of the Past product remains an active revenue-generator for Torstar. Early in her career, Claire created and launched the first public library email reference service in Canada while employed at the Toronto Public Library. Answerline, the centralized telephone and email reference service, garnered kudos in media circles for its innovative approach to library services.
Along with her Master of Library Science from the University of Toronto, Claire also has a Post Graduate Applied Information Technology Diploma.
Claire will transition over the summer to her new role but will remain the FCAPS Liaison until we have filled her current position.
