Facilities Factoids

Congratulations to the Facilities team for an outstanding job in preparing our campuses for the Fall 2014 term!  See below for a summary of their activities over the summer:

1)     Summer Students working at all four campuses:

• Used more than 600 gallons (2,727 litres) of latex paint to refresh common space and classroom walls (approx. 240,000 sq. ft. or 22,297 sq. m.)
• Scrubbed an additional 40,000 sq. ft. (3716 sq. m.) of classroom and common space walls

2)     Renovated classroom and office spaces – Total area – 20,000 sq. ft. (1,858 sq. m.) (size of M building at Davis)

• New Interactive Design Lab space for FAAD, Trafalgar Campus
• New Hybrid Computer Lab space for FAAD, Trafalgar Campus
• New Photography studio space for FAAD, Trafalgar Campus
• New Industrial Design studio space for FAAD, Trafalgar Campus
• Relocation and installation of new sound booth for FAAD, Trafalgar Campus
• Reconfiguration & upgrade to existing Media Sound studio for FAAD, Trafalgar Campus
• Reconfiguration & upgrade to existing Illustration classroom for FAAD, Trafalgar Campus
• Modification & upgrades to Textiles studio for FAAD, Trafalgar Campus
• Modification & upgrades to chemistry lab for FAST, Davis Campus
• Modification & upgrades to Faculty office for FAST, Davis Campus
• New Library office space, Trafalgar Campus
• New Faculty office space for FHASS, Davis Campus (ongoing)
• New office space for Faculty of Business, HMC
• New One-Card office space, Trafalgar & Davis Campuses
• New Health Centre, HMC (ongoing)

3)     Replaced flooring: Trafalgar Campus:

• C-Wing 2nd floor hallways – 2025 sq. ft. (188 sq. m.) (complete)
• C-Wing 2nd floor hallways – 3445 sq. ft. (320 sq. m.) (ongoing)

4)     Replaced 2,500 sq. ft. (232 sq. m.) of concrete sidewalks and curbs at Trafalgar and Davis campuses

5)     Replaced 85,000 sq. ft. (7,896 sq. m.) of asphalt pavement at Trafalgar and Davis campuses

6)     Filled cracks and sealed 82,332 linear ft. (25,095 linear m.) of parking lots at Davis and Trafalgar

7)     Performed major upgrades to six (6) washrooms at Trafalgar and Davis campuses

• J-wing 1^st floor (male & female)
• B-wing 3^rd floor (female)
• B-wing basement floor (female)
• B-wing 1^st floor infill-Davis (male & female)

8)     Replaced 15,000 sq. ft. (1,393 sq. m.) of asphalt roofing at Trafalgar

9)     Completed 800,000 sq. ft. (74,322 sq. m.) of infrared roof scans at Trafalgar and Davis

10)  Completed planting and sodding of various areas at Trafalgar and Davis

11)  Repaired floor tiles and installed expansion joints – main floor HMC

12)  Installed 800 linear ft. (243.9 m.) of snow guards on HMC roof

13)  Installed new roof screen to enclose roof top mechanical systems at HMC

14)  Replaced 200 classroom chairs and 1,700 chair casters

15)  Resurfaced Davis running trail (approximately 1 km in length) with over 60,000 cubic feet (1,699 cubic metres) of wood chips around the perimeter of the pond

16)  Installed new window blinds in 25 classrooms

17)  Rolled out Zero Waste bins at Davis and HMC campuses

18)  Created additional outdoor seating areas at Davis and Trafalgar

19)  Replaced entrance-way carpeting at multiple campus locations

20)  Replaced an additional 10water fountains with filtered water coolers having bottle filling capabilities at Davis and Trafalgar campuses

21)  Refurbished and modernized Trafalgar and Davis B-Wing elevators:

• To comply with current building codes and satisfy Sheridan’s needs reliably for the next 30 years
• Replacing existing machine room equipment & implementing 21^st century microprocessor based control systems
• Replacing main hydraulic lift cylinder, pumps, cabling & cooling systems
• Rebuilding hoist-way mechanical components
• Upgrading car fixtures & features
• Ensuring both elevators are tied into Emergency Power Systems (EPS)

22)  Executed a wide range of miscellaneous projects including:

• Installing new exterior security cameras & emergency telephone at Trafalgar Campus
• Installing new water main and electrical services to the Athletics building at Trafalgar Campus
• Engineering, designing, planning & implementing sustainable solutions for heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) and building automation systems (BAS) for G-Wing at Trafalgar Campus
• Installing the new ‘S’ sign at HMC

23)  Furthered strategic and operational initiatives:

• Driving down energy demand and costs to cool Davis and Trafalgar buildings this summer jointly with the Office of Sustainability…details and very favourable metrics will be provided later this month in our Sustainability update
• Introducing digitally addressable lighting interface (DALI) standards for lighting control panels and LED light fixtures for summer renovations and building refurbishments
• “Keeping the lights-on” ….literally….for the Sheridan community
