We are pleased to welcome a new Metadata and Systems Librarian, Philip Ping-Kit Wong, to the Library and Learning Services (LLS) Team at Sheridan College. Philip will be joining the LLS team on January 12, 2015.

Philip comes to Sheridan College with over 15 years of experience as a systems Librarian in academic Libraries. In various roles, Philip has administered and supported large-scale integrated library systems, digital assets management systems and discovery layers. Philip has also supported EZproxy, ERM, Open URL resolver, ILL systems, CMS and Library web sites. As part of these experiences, he has programmed and developed tools in support of data migration, metadata conversion and harvesting of Library related information. A large part of Philip’s role will be to support on-going development and findability of Library resources across various Library systems. His technical skills will help us improve Library services and offerings to our users.

Philip also has extensive skills developing an institutional repository, and working on e-theses, e-reserves and digital archives projects. In Philip’s most recent role, as Online Services Librarian for the State Library of New South Wales, he supported the maintenance and enhancement of the Digital Asset Management System (DAM), the Archival Collection Management System (ACMS), and supported OAI-PMH harvesting of digital resources into national digital repositories (National Library of Australia). Based on Philip’s experience in these areas, we believe he will serve as a great asset to the Sheridan Community, as LLS works with the Scholarly Engagement and Institutional Repository Working Group of URCA to preserve and disseminate Sheridan’s scholarly assets.

In addition to his hands-on technical experience gained from working in a variety of Library settings, Philip has the following:

Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, Chinese University of Hong Kong
Master of Philosophy in Philosophy, Chinese University of Hong Kong
Master of Science in Library Science, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA
Master of Science in Computer Science, State University of New York at Buffalo, USA

We are very excited about having Philip join our team. We look forward to introducing Philip to members of the Sheridan Community when he arrives in the New Year.
