On October 23, Gary Galbraith, a faculty member in the School of Public Safety, received the ‘Security Educator of the Year’ award for 2014 from the Toronto Chapter of ASIS International. This award is bestowed on a full-time educator in the Greater Toronto Area who has displayed exceptional ability in developing security and safety skills and knowledge in the classroom. The award was presented at the annual Law Enforcement and Security Practitioners Award Dinner, where ASIS recognizes the contributions made by local law enforcement and security personnel in maintaining safe and healthy communities.
In discussing this award, Gary Galbraith, who is also the coordinator of the Investigation and Emergency Management programs at Sheridan, added the following background: “This award is a testimony to the hard work of the faculty in the Investigation: Public and Private program in developing partnerships with professional organizations such as ASIS to help build pathways into the workplace for our students. In particular, the award recognizes the achievements of the program in encouraging students to utilize technological tools and established professional practices to promote resilience in public and private organizations.”
