Faculty of Animation, Arts and Design – Organizational Announcement

We are thrilled to announce a new organizational structure of our administrative team.  We have created five new administrative positions that are designed to extend the reach and scope of each of our five Departments.

For the Department of Design, Illustration and Photography, Lora Tamburri will work with Donna Braggins; Lora has worked at Sheridan as Special Projects manager and has 14 years of experience in the publishing industry.

For Visual and Performing Arts, Ned Loach will work with Michael Rubinoff; Ned has a background working in theatre management and is co-founder of Toronto’s first immersive cinema event company, 360 Screenings.

For Material Arts and Design, Connie Taylor will work with Heather Whitton. Connie has many years’ experience at Sheridan and previously has been an accounting administrator as well as a consultant for new business start-ups.

For Media and Journalism, Martina Sookbirsingh brings many years of experience at Sheridan, across many roles, to her work with Sandy McKean.

For Animation and Game Design, Susan Anderson-Wilcox has had many years of experience at Sheridan in various roles and across two Faculties. Susan will work with Angela Stukator.

Susan will also have a dual role, since she will continue to be the Faculty lead for co-ordinating part-time support. She will also continue to lead the outstanding work of our six Program Officers, Nancy Heath, Nancy Goncalves, Christine Franch, Tracy Smith, Barb Mathieu and Lesley Brown-Patterson.

In addition, we welcome six new full time faculty into FAAD, and three new technologists:

Rachel Miller will head up the Textiles Studio in Crafts and Design. Rachel brings a great depth of experience in teaching—most recently at Pratt Institute in New York City—as well as an active practice in costume design, installations and mixed media, an interest in sustainable design and a wealth of experience with co-ordinating curriculum projects with industry.  Rachel received her MFA in Fiber from the Cranbrook Academy of Art and her BFA in Crafts/ Fiber at the University of the Arts.

Michael Peters will join the faculty in Visual and Creative Arts. Michael brings over over 20 years of interdisciplinary experience in the design industry and in design education. He has worked as a design director for identity and wayfinding projects; for museum exhibits; and for web communications projects—for both corporate and governmental groups.  Michael recently completed a Master of Design degree at NSCADU, researching participatory design within a cultural context.

Cindy Poremba will join the faculty team in our Gaming programs (Bachelor of Game Design, Graduate Certificate in Game Level Design). Cindy Poremba is coming to Sheridan following a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at Georgia Institute of Technology. She received a MASc in Interactive Arts at Simon Fraser University and her PhD from Concordia University, which focused on crafting actuality in the documentary videogame.

She has been involved in new media production for over a decade, initially as a multimedia and learnware designer and more recently as a game researcher, creator and curator.

Marc Richard will join the dance faculty in the Bachelor of Music Theatre – Performance program. Marc is an actor, director, choreographer, writer and scholar. As an actor Marc has appeared in theatre productions across Canada. As a writer he has written several full length scripts. As a director and choreographer he has worked on over sixty professional productions across Canada.  He has been a faculty member and guest choreographer at Sheridan College in the Music Theatre and Performing Arts Preparation Programs since 2004.

He holds a Master of Arts in Dance from York University with a specialization in dance education and has recently finished his PhD in York University’s Faculty of Education where his work focused on creative dance education in elementary schools.

Mark Shufflebottom  will be joining the new program, Bachelor of Interaction Design. Mark is coming to Sheridan following a thirteen year career at Bournemouth University in England, where he led the Interactive Media program. Mark has also been widely recognized and awarded for his installation work in interactive media.

He has a wealth of experience leading applied research projects, most recently with VodaFone UK. In addition, he has published widely and developed numerous training modules for Adobe and others. In 2011, Mark was presented with the Adobe Impact Award “in recognition of outstanding services to higher education.”

Jason Thompson will join the faculty of the Bachelor of Animation program, and will also deliver courses in the new Bachelor of Game Design program. Jason has over 18 years of experience in children’s television, mobile storytelling, advertising, gaming and commercial design.

Jason holds an MA from Ryerson University and a BA from Queens. Notably, he is also an alumnus of Sheridan’s Classical Animation program.

Jeremy Fernie, Mac Technologist

Jeremy graduated from CCIT (joint program with UTM) in 2008, and promptly joined Sheridan as a program technologist for that program.  Jeremy received his Master of Information from University of Toronto in 2012. He became a fulltime Mac tech this past year, working with the Bachelor of Design and Web Design programs.

Emi Paternostro, Mac Technologist

Emiliano (Emi) holds a degree in Film and Video Production from York University. Previously working for Apple, Emi has amassed a large skill set for both technical and software support in the Mac environment. He also has extensive experience as an audio engineer in the film and television industry.

Brad Sherwood, VCA Technologist

Brad graduated from the Sculpture program (Glass) at OCAD in 1995. Among other accomplishments, he completed a summer residency followed by a three year residency at Harbourfront in the Glass studio. Since 2004 Brad has been teaching in the Craft and Design Glass program and Art Fundamentals at Sheridan as well as Fleming College and Haliburton School of the Arts.
