Facilities Factoids 2013 Highlights

Congratulations to the Facilities Management team for an outstanding job in preparing our campuses for the Fall 2013 term!  See below for a summary of their activities over the summer:

1)     Students working at all four campuses:

1. Painted over 300,000 sq. ft. (27,871 sq. m) in classrooms & common spaces
2. Inspected, cleaned and/or painted each and every classroom at all campuses
3. Scrubbed over 50,000 sq. ft. (4,645 sq. m.) of classroom & common space walls
4. Developed dual and tri-colour paint schemes for A, B, C and E Wings, Trafalgar campus
5. Painted all corridor walls & doors in E Wing, Trafalgar campus
6. Removed eight (8) portables from Davis Campus

2)     Renovated student spaces:  Total area – 20,000 sq. ft. (1,858 sq. m) (size of M Building)

1. New Chemistry Instrumentation Lab, Davis campus
2. New Electrical Lab, STC campus
3. New Gaming Design, Digital Fabrication & MAC computer labs, Trafalgar campus
4. New Media Distribution Centre, Trafalgar campus
5. New Music Theatre rehearsal studio spaces, Trafalgar campus
6. New classroom space for ECE, Trafalgar campus

3)     Replaced flooring in student spaces and corridors at Trafalgar & Davis campuses:

       Total area – 35,000 sq. ft. (3,251 sq. m)

1. A-Wing 1^st floor Student Creative Area & corridor
2. B-Wing 3^rd floor classrooms & corridor, 1^st floor offices
3. C-Wing 1^st floor lounge area & corridor
4. E-Wing 1^st floor classrooms, 1^st & 2^nd floor corridors
5. B-Wing 1^st & 3^rd floor classrooms, Davis campus

4)     Installed new elevators in student spaces at Trafalgar campus:  (2 locations)

1. Student Union Building
2. Athletics (under construction)

5)     Reduced electricity consumption by >60% in Trafalgar Athletics by introducing dimmable LED lighting to the gymnasium

6)     Reduced natural gas consumption at Trafalgar campus by >60% for the months of May, June, July & August by shutting off steam boilers and glass furnaces

7)     Renovated faculty/staff space:  Total area – 7,400 sq. ft. (687 sq. m)

1. New office space for Advancement/Alumni/Annuals, Trafalgar campus
2. New/renovated office space for Recruitment, FHASS & Executive, Trafalgar campus
3. New renovated office space for FHACS & Faculty of Business, Davis campus

8)     Redesigned corridor doorways at Trafalgar for barrier free traffic flow and to improve Fire Code compliance

9)     Replaced central staircase treads in J Wing, Trafalgar campus

10) Replaced over 9,000 sq. ft. ( 836 sq. m) of concrete walkways

11) Installed 1,600 sq. ft. (148 sq. m) of glycol heated sidewalks at Davis

12) Introduced new energy efficient white reflective roofing on Trafalgar B Wing

13) Completed planting and sodding of the Welcome Centre entrance at Davis

14) Painted the exterior metal cladding on A and AA Wings, Trafalgar campus

15) Planted flowers and deployed fifteen (15) potted vases at building entrances, Trafalgar campus

16) Planted new trees in various locations at Trafalgar and Davis campuses

17) Rejuvenated H Wing exterior front entrance gardens/bus stop at Davis
