Trafalgar Campus Telephony Analog Gateway Hardware Replacement

On Saturday, March 14 from 10 p.m. until 12 a.m. on March 15, IT staff will be replacing the hardware that controls our analog gateway. The hardware being replaced has reached the end of its life and vendor support cycle, and will be replaced by a more cost effective model that offers greater efficiency and capacity.

Consequently, analog devices at the Trafalgar Road campus that rely on the analog telephony gateway will be inoperable during the upgrade period. The following analog devices will be impacted:

  • Legacy Analog Telephones (these are typically the grubby beige phones still used in some locations – see example. If you have one of the grey Cisco IP phones you will not be impacted by this update)
  • Fax machines (this includes fax services on printers – you may miss out on a couple of vacation sell off notices)
  • ATM Machines and POS Terminals (most of these devices on campus are now digital, but there may still be some that are analog)
  • Laundry Machines in residence (the card readers are analog)
  • Emergency Security phones
  • Data modems (typically used by facilities for monitoring)
  • Emergency Response Speakers
  • TTY Devices* (found in special needs rooms in residence)

* TTY stands for text telephone

Problems or Concerns?

Following the hardware replacement, if you encounter problems with any of the devices/services listed above please contact the IT Help Desk for support at helpdesk@sheridancollege.ca or call ext. 2150.
