Library and Learning Services are committed to providing universal access to information for the Sheridan community. The Library has always strived to provide users with resources in accessible formats upon request. In this spirit, we are happy to announce that current Sheridan students, faculty and staff with a perceptual disability now have access to ACE (the Accessible E-portal).
ACE is a repository of thousands of books in accessible formats including e-pub, DAISY and PDF. ACE is managed by Scholars portal, a service of the Ontario Council of University Libraries.
According to the Canadian Copyright Act, “perceptual disability” means a disability that prevents or inhibits a person from reading or hearing a literary, musical, dramatic or artistic work in its original format, and includes such a disability resulting from (a) severe or total impairment of sight or hearing or the inability to focus or move one’s eyes; (b) the inability to hold or manipulate a book, or (c) an impairment relating to comprehension.
Please note that ACE does not include textbooks. For requests regarding alternative format textbooks, please contact Accessible Learning.
If you would like to request a book from the Sheridan collection in an alternative format and are interested in learning more about ACE, please contact Marian Traynor (Manager, Library User Services – marian.traynor@sheridancollege.ca) or Jennifer Hance (Manager, Collections and Technical Services – Jennifer.Hance@sheridancollege.ca).
