From now until August 31, work will proceed at our Mississauga campus to construct a third floor pedestrian bridge that will connect our existing building to the one that is under construction. Hours of construction are from 7 am – 7pm in June, and 7 am- 9pm in July and August.
Over the next two weeks, temporary hoarding and signage will be installed to re-route and protect pedestrian traffic from the construction area.
Beginning on June 22, door A3 adjacent to Starbucks will be off limits to pedestrians however Starbucks itself will remain open. The Sheridan Shuttle Bus will also be relocated during this time to the southeast corner of the building (near the S sculpture) beginning on June 22. There will be no access to Square One Drive from Duke of York Blvd. Vehicular access to shipping/receiving from Living Arts Drive remains unchanged for the duration of the project, but deliveries will only be possible during the hours of 7 am – 7pm. Pedestrian access to the building from the south and east sides remains the same. On the west side, some doors that were previously ‘exit only’ will become accessible as entry points into the building. Changes will be communicated through on site signage.
While our existing building was designed from the outset to receive a bridge in the event of a campus expansion, the project will generate noise and dust. A portion of the outer layer of the north end of the building on floor 2, 3 and 4 must be removed. From July 2-5, a mobile crane will be on Square One Drive to hoist trusses and structural beams.
Arrangements are currently underway to finish relocating members of our internal community who regularly use rooms A202c, A210, A308, A304, A404a, and A404b. In some cases, these rooms were already taken off-line at the end of term in April to prepare for this project. Individuals using A202d, A212 and A404c will be temporarily relocated on July 2 and 3 while the crane work is underway. Facilities Services is currently working with the impacted individuals to finalize alternative arrangements.
The construction of the bridge was intentionally scheduled for our summer months when enrolment at our Mississauga campus is at its lowest. While the bridge won’t be used for pedestrian traffic until the new building is open, the bridge is needed to house cabling that will deliver power and data to the site from our existing building to enable future work to continue.
