Staffing announcement: Academic reorganization

On August 28, Bill Holmes will be leaving Sheridan to assume new responsibilities as the Dean of the Faculty of Management at Royal Roads University in Victoria, BC.  This is a wonderful opportunity for Bill to pursue his professional goals and for his family to return to the West coast and its myriad attractions. Royal Roads’ gain is our loss – that being said, I wish Bill every success in his future as an academic leader and will miss his counsel and support.

With the departure of Bill, I have had to make some changes to ensure that his responsibilities as Vice Provost are delegated and that the short-term and long-term interests of Sheridan are clearly addressed.  In order to consider our long-term needs in light of our Vision, Mission, Self Study process and creation of the next iteration of the Academic Innovation Strategy, I am putting a short-term (12 to 18 months) structure in place so that we can meet our collective responsibilities while stepping back to consider our long-term needs.

  • Melanie Spence-Ariemma will retain her present responsibilities as Associate Vice President, Academic Quality and will assume some of Bill’s present portfolio as Acting Vice Provost. Postsecondary Faculty Deans, Centre for Teaching and Learning, Library and Learning Services and Centre for People and Organizational Development will report through Melanie.
  • Has Malik is assuming a new role as Interim Associate Vice President, Academic Resource Planning and Allocation/Faculty of Continuing and Professional Studies. Has will continue to provide leadership to the Faculty of Continuing and Professional Studies (FCAPS).
  • Yael Katz, Dean of the Institute for Creativity and the Creative Campus will add to her responsibilities as the Acting Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHASS).
  • Brian Jervis will retain the leadership for the academic projects in his portfolio as Director of the Academic Computing Integration Strategy. He will also serve as the Interim Associate Vice President, Scholarship, Research and Creative Activities (SRCA) with Dr. Darren Lawless, Dean of  Research, Mark Chapman, Director of Institutional Research, Dr. Mardy Frazer, SRCA Special Advisor, and John Helliker, Director of Strategic Partnerships and Director of SIRT/SirtNet  reporting through him.

Please join me in welcoming this new team as it assumes its new roles and we work together towards a bright future for Sheridan. The revised organizational chart is attached for your information.

– Mary Preece
Provost & Vice President, Academic
