It is truly wonderful what can come from a focus on excellent student service when it is combined with a desire to collaborate. A student approached the Financial Aid and Awards Office in November for guidance and advice about planning financially for the academic year, as he required a new laptop to support his program expectations. Kristen Harper, the Financial Aid Advisor, investigated the possible sources of funding that might be available to assist this student, and the “traditional” ones had previously been accessed by the student. Kristen persevered, spoke with the senior management of Financial Aid and Awards, and then reached out to the Accessible Learning Services Office. The result of this collaboration was that Financial Aid and Awards could cover the cost of this necessary technology, Accessible Learning Services obtained the program specifications and ordered the laptop and the student came into the Financial Aid Office to receive it on January 14, 2016.
This act of kindness has affected more than just this single student – it has shown us that creative approaches to problem-solving can bring results everywhere at Sheridan!
