Is Valencia or Sierra the right Instagram filter for that photo of your dinner? What is the optimal way to organize your Netflix queue now that you’ve finished binge-watching the latest show? How many selfies per hour is too many? These are the questions that inspired the creation of Sheridan’s newest Bachelor’s program – Bachelor of Modern Media Consumption – and the College’s April Fool’s Day prank.

The fictitious program was advertised prominently for the morning of April 1 on Sheridan’s home page banner, which was created by Illustration student Kimberlyn Porter, and was advertised on Sheridan’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts.

Courses in the Bachelor of Modern Media Consumption program included: Introduction to Selfie Etiquette, Strategies for Prioritizing Your Netflix Queue, Selfie Composition: Advanced Angles, and Tools for Managing Obscure LinkedIn Endorsements. Followers were asked to vote for one of their favourite courses after the prank was revealed on Twitter.

Social media posts had high levels of engagement and many employees and students commented on or helped spread the word about the program through re-tweets and shares.

Thanks for playing along!
