Professional Development Funding: Update & Summer Deadlines

We are excited to announce 2 months into the new fiscal year the Professional Development Committee has committed more than $103,000 in funding to support our employees in their pursuit of professional development activities. These activities transpire over the course of the next several months and include some of the following:

  • American Educational Research Association Conference
  • Education at Work Ontario Conference
  • The Ontario College Math Association Conference;
  • The Ontario University & College Health Association Conference;
  • Canadian Athletic Therapist Association National Conference;
  • Plus many other conferences, workshops, courses and professional development activities.

Here is a reminder about some important details for those considering applying for professional development funding:

  1. The Professional Development Fund Committee does not meet during the months of July and August. Please ensure your applications are complete and submitted to HR before the June deadline, Monday June 10th.  Applications received after this date but before the date of the PD activity will be deferred to the September meeting.
  1. If an employee would like to access PD funds an application for funding must be completed, signed by the employee’s Manager and submitted to Human Resources before the activity begins or commences.  This is the first deadline date to be aware if you plan to put forward an application.
  1. The second deadline date to be aware of are monthly committee deadline dates published on our webpage.  If a completed application is received in HR before the second Monday of a month (with the exception of July/August), the committee will review and tender a decision regarding funding approval in that month’s meeting. Results will be communicated by no later than the end of the month.  However, please note, ultimately, if an application is received in HR after the PD activity has begun, the Committee will not review the application as it is considered ineligible.
  1. As per Sheridan’s corporate Travel Policy any College approved activity that requires travel outside of Ontario and Canada requires a completed Travel Approval Form.  It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure this form is completed and signed by their Manager and VP. The PD Committee will not review an application for funding until HR receives a photocopy of an authorized Travel Approval Form.  Preplanning is essential in preparing for your application.
