I am pleased to announce that, effective December 5th, 2016 Ruben Burga will be joining the Pilon School of Business as our new Associate Dean responsible for the Advertising and Marketing diploma and degree programs.
Ruben joined Sheridan in 2012. During the past four years at Sheridan he has taught in several Faculties including PSB, FACHS and FCAPS. Ruben has developed curriculum and taught business courses while at Sheridan and also at the University of Guelph, where he is currently completing his PhD in Management. Currently, Ruben is also actively engaged with students within PSB as a founding and charter member of HMC’s Sheridan Bruins Toastmasters Club.
Recently, Ruben earned an award for his co-authored paper on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL) at the prestigious Academy of Management (AoM) Annual Conference (2016). He also recently completed his Graduate Certificate in SOTL with the University of Guelph and the UK-based Staff and Educational Development Association. In addition to presenting and publishing academic papers on social entrepreneurship, control theory, and SOTL, Ruben has participated in leadership roles representing the University of Guelph at UN Principles of Responsible Management global meetings.
Prior to joining the Academic communities of Sheridan and the University of Guelph, Ruben led business development, marketing and sales organizations in several International markets including: Southeast Asia, Brazil, Europe, USA and Canada. With over 30 years of progressive business expertise, working with teams of sales and marketing professionals, Ruben has proven skills in developing marketing channels for niche high tech products.
In addition to his most recent PhD studies, Ruben has earned an MBA in Marketing from Bryant University in the USA and holds a Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Toronto. Ruben is a strong supporter of the Sheridan vision. He is committed to curriculum innovation and the whole-learner teaching and learning model within PSB.
Ruben’s teaching experience accompanied by his professional and educational credentials provide him with the ideal scope and skill dimensions to assume the duties of Associate Dean.
