On October 27, 100 Grade 7s Tested the Trades at the Sheridan Skills Training Centre. Testing the Trades is an exciting day-long event for Grade 7 students that allows them to explore the different career opportunities in the trades with an emphasis on how important math is in these careers. Students from the Peel District School Board and Dufferin Peel Catholic School Board rotated through 4 student-centre activities in plumbing, electrical, machining and a math workshop that tested their measuring skills.
This early exposure to College and Apprenticeship programs in the trades provides an understanding of the pathways to college and apprenticeship programs and is part of the School College Work Initiative.
The students had a great day exploring different careers. Some student testimonials included:
- I liked learning about different careers
- Today was an amazing day learning new things
- Today was very fun and interesting. The staff was very kind and helpful.
- I really like Sheridan and I would love to come here again. I think it’s a good college for people to see what they want to be when they are older.
