Staffing Announcement: Pilon School of Business

These are exciting times within the Pilon School of Business as we continue to build capacity in support of Sheridan’s vision. In the approaching months, as planned, Acting Associate Deans Greg Ball and Anne-Liisa Longmore will resume their roles as Professors. I would like to extend a special thank you to both Anne-Liisa and Greg for championing these Acting Associate Dean positions over the past years. With strong leadership and a focus on learning, engagement and collaboration, I know they have had and, will continue to have in their roles as Professors, a positive, and valued, impact in our Community.

On this note, I am delighted to introduce new Associate Dean (AD) colleagues and, a corresponding re-alignment of administrative portfolios which will roll-out over the coming months with an effective date of July 1st.

I am pleased to introduce Wendy Kubasik as Associate Dean replacing Anne-Liisa Longmore. Wendy will hold responsibilities for the Human Resources diploma and degree programs as well as the Business (General) diploma – inclusive of the Common 1styear. Wendy will also be responsible for the Office Administration diploma cluster and the Creative Learning Portfolio courses as well as, the Leadership, Research and Strategy subject areas. Maureen Gioseffi, in her role as APA, will report to Wendy providing support to this portfolio. Wendy will be primarily located at our HMC office. She joined the PSB on May 23rd.

Wendy joins our School with over twenty years of experience in the higher education sector spanning strategy, leadership, change management, financial, human resources and research administration. Wendy completed her PhD degree in Higher Education Leadership and Management in 2017 (UofT), and holds a MEd (UofT), and a BA from York. Wendy has special expertise in higher education systems, strategy, financial models and data analytics. Her work has been presented at international, national and local conferences. Prior to joining the PSB, Wendy was the Director of Administration for the Department of Anesthesia in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto. She has held senior positions at McMaster University, the University of Toronto, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and York University.

Also joining the PSB as Associate Dean is David Connal. David will take on responsibility for our Finance degree and diploma programs as well as, all PSB Economics and Math courses. Heather Asling, in her role as APA, will report to David providing support to this portfolio. David will primarily be located at our DAVIS offices. David also joined our School on May 23rd.

David has significant experience in Corporate Learning with recent roles that include Global Head of Learning for BMO Capital Markets, Chief Learning Officer for KPMG Canada as well as running his own talent/learning strategy company.  David has also held several senior level positions in industry including senior positions with Atomic Energy of Canada, Bell Canada and Maritz Canada.  David has published and presented numerous papers at conferences across North America and, has also taught a variety of courses in the Business School at George Brown College.

Carolyn McEwan joins our School as Associate Dean on June 19th. In her AD role, Carolyn will assume stewardship of the Supply Chain Management degree and, will oversee the interdisciplinary collection of PSB graduate certificate programs. Leadership of our portfolio of alternative revenue projects will also rest with Carolyn. A major thrust of this portfolio is the development of exciting new certificates (currently underway) and, the continued development of marketing strategies intended to support enrolment growth of our current graduate certificate offerings. In terms courses that span our many programs, Carolyn will take on responsibility for our Information Systems/Computer Technology, E-commerce and Business Communications courses. Supporting Carolyn in her role as AD is Jessica McDougall, APA. Carolyn will be primarily located at our HMC offices.

Carolyn joins our School with over twenty years of management experience – including the past seven years in the higher education sector. She joins us directly from McMaster University where she was Assistant Director in the Centre for Continuing Education. In this role she held responsibility for all strategic, financial, academic, and operational aspects of a diverse portfolio of certificates and diploma programs. Carolyn has extensive new program research, program development and, marketing skills – including expertise in online and blended programming.

As we know, Ruben Burga joined our School as Associate Dean responsible for our Marketing diplomas and degree as well as, our Advertising diplomas, last December. In terms of new responsibilities, effective July 1st, Ruben’s portfolio will include the Law, Ethics and Social Responsibility courses that are delivered across various PSB programs. Ruben will also assume stewardship to our Industry Liaison role as well. Charlene Kawazoye, APA will continue to provide support to this portfolio. Ruben is primarily located at our Davis office.

Robert Giberson, Associate Dean, will continue to hold responsibility for the Accounting diploma and degree programs as well as, our Tourism and Global Travel diploma program. Effective July 1st, Rob takes up the FAAD- PSB joint degree and joint graduate certificate development projects – a transition plan will be coordinated with the support of Greg Ball and the program development lead in FAAD for these important interdisciplinary projects. Rob maintains the responsibility for the subject areas of Applied Business Management and Business Cases. Amanda Sookdeo, will continue to report to Rob in her role as APA (replacing Sarah Bell who is on leave). Rob is primarily located at our HMC offices.

Please join me in thanking Anne-Liisa and Greg for their dedication and support to our Community in their roles as Acting Associate Deans over the past years, in welcoming our new Associate Dean colleagues and, in wishing all Associate Deans much success with their new portfolios.
