Conference Scholarship Program WINTER 2018 Term
The Conference Scholarship Program is designed to support faculty participation in teaching and learning conferences; ultimately, enabling them to explore current issues and trends in teaching, share best teaching practices, and advance their knowledge. To date, the program has supported more than 45 professors, and this Winter 2018 it will be sponsoring up to five faculty members. Each scholarship recipient will have the cost of registration, travel, accommodation and meals covered (in accordance with Sheridan’s ‘Travel, Hospitality and Other Expenses’ policy) up to $1500 CAD. As sponsors of this program, all eligible expenses will be reimbursed by the Centre for Teaching and Learning.
Eligibility
Applicants must be full-time post-probationary faculty and applications must be supported by a professor’s Associate Dean/Manager. All travel must take place prior to March 16, 2018. As a requirement, successful applicants are expected to share their conference learning with faculty and colleagues at Sheridan.
Suggested Conferences
Applicants are encouraged to self-select a conference they believe will contribute to and enhance their teaching and learning practice. Examples of past conferences supported by the Conference Scholarship program include:
- Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE) Conference
- The Teaching Professor Technology Conference
- Ontario Association for Math Education Conference
- Canadian Engineering Education Association (CEEA) Conference
- Canadian International Conference on Advances in Education, Teaching and Technology
Other conferences that may be of interest to faculty include, the International Society for Scholarship in Teaching and Learning, and teaching and learning conferences that are specific to faculty’s academic disciplines.
Application Process and Review
All completed applications may be submitted to Natalie De Vuono by email at natalie.devuono@sheridancollege.ca or dropped off at SCAET 413, Trafalgar campus.
Applications will be reviewed on the following criteria:
Conference Focus and Timelines – description of the conference and its associated details (e.g. timing etc)
Pedagogical Rationale – description of how attendance at this conference will contribute to and/or support enhanced teaching and learning, curriculum development, and/or delivery or assessment within the applicant’s teaching.
Dissemination Plan – applicant’s plans to share results of the work at Sheridan, through publications, workshops, seminars, conferences, or other means.
Application Deadline is 4:00 p.m. on Monday December 11, 2017.
Submission and Notification
