Sheridan’s International Team held our pre-departure orientation in India this year on December 5-9. The major events were hosted in the cities of Ahmedabad, Chandigarh and Jalandhar, and were attended by around 260 students along with their parents.
The goal of these events is to ensure that the new international students have all the information they need to make a successful transition to Sheridan. It’s an opportunity for students and parents to meet the Sheridan team, and to learn more about Sheridan student life and Canadian culture, and become aware of all of the academic and student supports that will be available to them once they arrive. The seminars also provide a platform for parents and students to make a personal connection with Sheridan and an opportunity for students to meet with their future classmates, roommates and future lifelong friends.
The orientation was organized and planned by Sandeep Rane, Manager, International Service, with a team in India. Dr. Mike Allcott, Dean, International, travelled with Sandeep to India to welcome the students starting in January 2018 on behalf of theSheridan community.
The orientation covered topics like- Planning for trip to Canada, living in Canada, academics and student services at Sheridan, and life outside classroom. Dean Allcott replicated the Sheridan classroom experience by giving participants short assignments at the event.
Mr. Gurbans Sobti, Trade Commissioner, and Ms. Jeena George, Trade Commissioner Assistant, Education, delivered welcome remarks on behalf of the Government of Canada. In her remarks, Ms. George noted the value and recognition of Canadian higher education worldwide and encouraged students to make the best of the opportunity. The orientation events were covered by local Hindi and Punjabi print and television media.
