Annie Awards (February 3):
The Annie Awards celebrate accomplishments in animation. Four Sheridan alumni have been nominated for three Annie Awards.
- Allison Rutland (Computer Animation ’03) and John Chun Chiu Lee (Animation ‘02; Computer Animation ‘03) for best Character Animation in an Animated Feature Production, for their work on ‘Coco’.
- Ben Plouffe (Animation ’05), for his work on the ‘Baymax Returns’ episode of ‘Big Hero 6: The Series’, in the category of Production Design in an Animated Television/Broadcast Production.
- Andrew Hickson (Illustration ’84), for his work on ‘Ferdinand’, in the Production Design in an Animated Feature Production category.
BAFTA Awards (February 18):
Sheridan grads received several British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) nominations, including Brad Zoern (Media Arts, ’92) for Best Sound, and Kevin Scott (Computer Animation ’95) for Best Special Visual Effects, for their work on ‘The Shape of Water’.
Visual Effects Society Awards (February 18)
David Soren (Animation ’96) was nominated for Outstanding Visual Effects in an Animated Feature for ‘Captain Underpants’. Also nominated for a Visual Effects award is Mahmoud Rahnama (Computer Animation, Digital Visual Effects ’04) for ‘Star Trek: Discovery, The Vulcan Hello’.
Oscars (March 4):
Brad Zoern (Media Arts ’92) received an Oscar nomination for sound mixing for his work on ‘The Shape of Water’. Alumni also worked on four of the five films nominated for Best Animated Feature film, and on all of the films nominated for Best Visual Effects.
Canadian Screen Awards (March 11):
The Canadian Screen Awards (CSA) celebrate Canadian productions and talent—both in front of the camera and behind-the-scenes—in film, television and digital media. Sheridan alumni received nearly 40 CSA nominations.
