On November 27, 2017, Bill 148, also known as the Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, was passed by the Ontario government outlining significant changes to the Employment Standards Act, 2000 (ESA) in an effort to enhance employment conditions for employees. The effective dates of the changes are staggered, with some changes effective January 1, 2018 and others effective into 2019. Updates include:
• minimum wage
• public holidays
• vacation entitlement
• leave enhancements (e.g. personal emergency leave, pregnancy and parental leave)
• hours of work
• overtime
• scheduling/on-call

Sheridan is aligning policies, processes, and communications to ensure compliance. HR will continue to collaborate with, and provide guidance to, leaders in navigating the changes. If you have questions, please contact Human Resources or submit enquiries to the following mailbox which is dedicated to Bill 148: Bill148questions@Sheridancollege.ca.
