Join us this week over lunch for our sparkTALKS  Teaching Tuesdays session entitled Learner Resistance to Active and Innovative Instructional Strategies.

In her book Learner-Centered Teaching (2013); Maryellen Weimer states “students have the right to resist. Students cannot be forced to learn anything. All teachers can do is to make the case for learning and work to create conditions that are conducive to it” (Weimer, 2013).  Through an examination of empirical research and grounded instructional practices, we will examine the factors that contribute to student resistance to active learning and the approaches we can integrate into our teaching to create environments that are conducive to learning.
