Sheridan College sponsored a Skilled Trades and Mechanical Engineering collaboration project that was designed and built, in-house, for the Worldskills Abu Dhabi 2017 Industrial Mechanic Millwright (IMM) competition. We are pleased to say it is on its way to the United Nations Industrial Development Organization Headquarters in Vienna, Austria.
The project, completed at the request of the United Nations, will be on display to show visitors to UNIDO’s headquarters how ingenuity, team work and “thinking outside the box” can help developing countries overcome sustainability challenges. The Worldskills IMM competition project allows communities to have the most basic of human needs – “clean drinking water.” The completed units, at the conclusion of the Worldskills competition, were through the Worldskills Foundation and UNIDO donated to a water sustainability project in Morocco.
“This is an incredible honor, and one that everyone involved with this project should be very proud of,” said Craig Brazil (Faculty, IMM Program’s FAST), Simon Heathcote (Lab Manager, MEET) and Shaun Ghafari (Faculty, MEET) three key players in bringing this whole venture to fruition.
