Sheridan’s International Centre has coordinated a series of faculty visits to partner universities, colleges and institutes in China recently. In April, Associate Dean Rob Giberson of the Pilon School of Business visited Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology as well as Gengdan Institute of the Beijing University of Technology.

A faculty team from the Faculty of Animation, Arts, and Design will be visiting colleges and universities in China, sharing their knowledge and expertise with students and colleagues during the month of May.

Faculty travelling to China during the month of May will have opportunities to develop their cultural understanding as well as professional interest in cooperation with international counterparts.

Professors David How, Sherine Mansour, Michael Kennedy, and John Kneller will spend time at potential and existing partner institutions including the Shenzhen Institute of Technology, Shenzhen Polytechnic, Communications University of China (Nanjing), the Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts (SIVA), and the Jilin Institute of Animation.

Friendships with colleagues in China will open the door to potential partnerships, collaborative research, and creative activities. Many students who may not have the opportunity to study in Canada will benefit from experiencing Sheridan teaching philosophy in their own schools. Also, meeting Sheridan faculty will help students who are considering study at our campuses to make more informed choices about their academic plans.

“It is a great learning opportunity for faculty to experience the culture and reality of today’s China. Such experiences can globalize their teaching, and enrich the knowledge they share with students in classrooms here at Sheridan. Likewise, friendships and shared interest between faculty form a substantive basis for future international partnerships; such partnerships are crucial to Sheridan’s ongoing success in internationalization,” says Mike Allcott, Dean, International.
