The Office for Sustainability and Facilities Services are excited to announce that the Brampton Board of Trade has nominated Sheridan College’s Davis Campus for this year’s Business Excellence Award in the Community Impact category!
Sheridan is being recognized for all of the hard work and effort that has been infused into the Integrated Climate Energy Master Plan (IECMP) project since 2013, currently underway at the Davis and Trafalgar Campuses, respectively. In both instances, Sheridan is working closely with the communities in which these campuses reside (City of Brampton and Town of Oakville, respectively) towards the creation of their own Community Energy Plans, while also reaching out to properties located directly adjacent to these campuses to investigate the potential for adding them on the College’s district heating loop.
The IECMP is a coordinated effort to replace outdated HVAC and lighting systems, while performing various building envelope retrofits (windows, doors, roof replacements, etc.), among other projects. These are necessary to attempt an energy and GHG reduction of 50% by 2020, as per the goals in the Sheridan IECMP.
The eight nomination criteria for this award are as follows:
- Demonstrate leadership excellence through developing a vision for a stronger Brampton business community and inspiring others to work toward that vision
- Uses traditional and new communication techniques to engage the community and customers in an innovative way
- Provides an example of what can be achieved when working collaboratively to attain a goal and demonstrates characteristics such as team spirit, combining talents of traditionally separate units, and/or partnerships with other businesses
- Exemplifies the spirit of risk and innovation while growing their business and contributing to the vibrancy and diversity of Brampton’s business community through their achievements
- Contributes to the quality of life of the greater Brampton community by demonstrating that commitment and responsibility aren’t confined to business and their impact can be social, cultural or environmental
- Helps support youth, newcomers or new entrepreneurs to be successful in our business community by investing time to mentor, teach, coach and develop excellence in others
- Promoting, exporting or importing their products or services internationally to bring Brampton to the world and the world to Brampton
- Encourages a healthy workplace and understands that a culture of wellness is tantamount to supporting employee and business health by focusing on employee welfare and investing time/resources, the nominee has seen significant change and success within their business
Conversations are ongoing with the City of Brampton (South Fletcher’s Sportsplex), Extendicare Brampton, Holland Christian Homes and the United Achievers Non-Profit Housing Corporation (a.k.a. Mahogany Place), all of which are neighbours with property directly adjacent to the College’s Davis Campus.
It is the hope of the College that we are able to continue in a leadership role to help transition not only Sheridan, but the whole extended community to a mode of green thinking, planning and building in the future.
Facilities Services and the Office for Sustainability are continually striving towards making Sheridan a Zero Waste space. As such, they would like to thank the Brampton Board of Trade for this amazing recognition towards these on-campus efforts to date.
Stay tuned to the Sheridan College Mission Zero website for updates on this award, and any other project-related information pertaining to the IECMP.
