Tour de Sheridan 2018

Sheridan College hosted its third annual Tour de Sheridan cycling event Thursday, July 12th.

This was a Tri-Campus event, giving riders from Davis, HMC, and Trafalgar a chance to meet and bike with other cyclists in the Sheridan community while exploring our municipalities.

“We had a really good route to take. Riding in a group was good; you get to know people and you feel safer on these longer rides,” said Brandon Quigley, from Region of Peel. “For my work, it is important for me to get out and ride and see the trails we talk about. We’re looking at improving infrastructure in the Region of Peel and events like these give me a user perspective.”

Each route had different distances to reach Lake Aquitaine Park, where the cyclists would eventually gather for refreshments, giveaways and good conversation by the water.

There were road groups for more serious cyclists and the more self-explained casual group. Combined, the Tour de Sheridan participants collectively rode 588 km!

“These events are essential. Especially in the case of Brampton, it’s industrial here with large roads. So getting people to shift from cars out to an environment where they should be cycling is key … it’s events like these that encourage people to get on their bikes,” Traffic Operations Supervisor for the City of Brampton’s Planning and Infrastructure Services Department, Nelson Cadete, said.
