Fall Conference Scholarship Program – Apply Now!

The Conference Scholarship Program is designed to support faculty participation in teaching and learning conferences; ultimately, enabling them to explore current issues and trends in teaching, share best teaching practices, and advance their knowledge. To date, the program has supported more than 50 professors. Each scholarship recipient will have the cost of registration, travel, accommodation and meals covered (in accordance with Sheridan’s ‘Travel, Hospitality and Other Expenses’ policy) up to $1,500 CAD. As sponsors of this program, all eligible expenses will be reimbursed by the Centre for Teaching and Learning.

Eligibility

Applicants must be full-time post-probationary faculty and applications must be supported by a professor’s Associate Dean/Manager. All travel must take place prior to December 31, 2018. As a requirement, successful applicants are expected to share their conference learning with faculty and colleagues at Sheridan.

Applicants are encouraged to self-select a conference they believe will contribute to and enhance their teaching and learning practice. Examples of past conferences supported by the Conference Scholarship program include:

Other conferences that may be of interest to faculty are specific to faculty’s academic disciplines. Be sure to check with professional societies.

Application Process and Review

All completed applications may be submitted to Jocelyn Pangilinan by email at jocelyn.pangilinan1@sheridancollege.ca or dropped off at SCAET 415, Trafalgar Campus. Applications will be reviewed on the following criteria:

  • Conference Focus and Timelines – description of the conference and its associated details (e.g. timing, etc.)
  • Pedagogical Rationale  description of how attendance at this conference will contribute to and/or support enhanced teaching and learning, curriculum development, and/or delivery or assessment within the applicant’s teaching.
  • Dissemination Plan  applicant’s plans to share results of the work at Sheridan, through publications, workshops, seminars, conferences, or other means.

Submission and Notification

Associate Dean/Manager signature is required. Digital signatures or an email to jocelyn.pangilinan1@sheridancollege.ca in support of the application are acceptable in lieu of a physical signature. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Applications will be blind reviewed by a selection committee following the deadline. All applicants will be notified of their status on Monday October 8, 2018. Applicants who have received a CTL Conference Scholarship in the previous two years will not be considered.
