orange shirtSheridan is proud to support Orange Shirt Day, an initiative promoted each year on September 30, in the spirit of reconciliation, to keep discussion happening about the residential school experience. Because this year’s Orange Shirt Day falls on a Sunday, we’d like to invite all members of the Sheridan community to wear an orange shirt on Friday, September 28.

Orange Shirt Day provides the opportunity to witness and honour the healing journey of residential school survivors and their families, and to commit to the ongoing process of reconciliation. Chief Justice Murray Sinclair challenged all of the participants to keep the reconciliation process alive. Sheridan is proud to have a Centre for Indigenous Learning and Support, and to have signed Ci-Can’s Indigenous Education Protocol this past June.

Events such as Orange Shirt Day are important to Sheridan and its commitment to truth and reconciliation. Orange Shirt Day opens the door to a global discussion about residential schools and the impact they have had on Canada. It’s a day for survivors to be reaffirmed that they matter.

Please share your photos of Orange Shirt Day on social media using @IndigenousSher and #SheridanProud.
