Sheridan, in collaboration with the Region of Peel, has worked hard throughout the year to bring this amazing program to life. Located in the A-Wing of HMC, the hope is that this will provide, “a space to go to when looking for cycling resources,” Sheridan Cycling and Sustainable Transportation Coordinator Vicki Tran said.
The Hub is still in its early stages of development. For the moment it will serve the community mainly as a do-it-yourself bicycle repair shop, with all the tools and guidance anybody may need, on hand.
“It will be the catalyst to get people thinking of cycling in the city because we don’t have a rideshare program here or anywhere in the Region of Peel, so this will help to stimulate the discussion and maybe get more city or region programs. It’s a great start,” Wayne Chan, Region of Peel Manager, Sustainable Transportation said.

The Region has a partnership with the College to develop the Hub into a more comprehensive rideshare and mentorship program. A big part of the Hub is to spark conversation and interest in cycling within our community.
The resources available to visitors of the Sheridan Hub will consist of bike repair stands, a peg board with any tool needed to fix a bicycle, materials on how to fix your bike and expert leadership ready to guide any and all who stop by.
“The Bike Hub provides not only a place to bring your bike, store your bike or fix your bike, but also a place where you can be in a community with other bike users,” Associate Vice President for Capital Development and Facilities Management Michelle McCullom said.

“Cyclists are stronger together, and there is so much to learn to ensure one’s safety on the city streets. The more people we can educate and begin riding, the more people will start to see the bigger cycling community and ensure we have safe access to needed infrastructure,” Vicki said.
A huge thank you goes to the Region of Peel, City of Mississauga and Colleges and Canada Institutes for being so supportive in this endeavour. Of course, our thanks and gratitude must go to the Facilities team and especially Vicki Tran, who worked incredibly hard to make this vision a reality.
