An Ocean of Minutes, the debut novel by Thea Lim, Professor of Creative Writing and Publishing, has been named to CBC’s Canada Reads 2019 longlist!
Canada Reads is CBC’s annual “Battle of the Books.” Five celebrity panelists champion a book through debate and discussion and vote to eliminate titles until one is declared the winner. Past Canada Reads’ winning books include Michael Ondaatje’s In the Skin of a Lion defended by musician Steven Page, Lisa Moore’s February defended by comedian Trent McClellan and Lawrence Hill’s The Illegal defended by five-time Olympic medallist Clara Hughes. The debates are broadcast on CBC Radio One, CBC TV and online at CBC Books.
This year’s Canada Reads theme is: One Book to Move You. Learn more about Thea’s novel and the other authors named to the 2019 Canada Reads longlist on CBC’s website.
This isn’t the first time Thea has been recognized in recent months for her work. In the fall of 2018, An Ocean of Minutes was short-listed for the Scotiabank Giller Prize.
Finalists for Canada Reads 2019 and the panelists will be announced on January 31.
Congratulations to Thea on this achievement!
