Background:
Launched in 1988 at the Exploratorium in San Francisco, the date March 14 is an ode to the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diametre, which is 3.14. March 14 represents the third month and 14th day, hence the connection. Pi Day has become an international holiday, celebrated live and online around the world.
Pi Day is generously sponsored by Sara Lee Foods and supported by numerous student volunteers.
