Sheridan welcomed The Honourable Reza Moridi, Minister of Research and Innovation, for a tour of the Centre for Advanced Manufacturing and Design Technologies (CAMDT) at the Davis Campus on Wednesday, April 23. The hour-long event included demonstrations in three labs: The Product Innovation Centre (FABLAB) which houses the most sophisticated 3D Production System on the market; the ABB Robotics Training Centre, featuring over 12 robots and related work cells, software and controllers; and the Integrated Energy Systems Laboratory, a lab designed to teach students the fundamentals of a variety of energy systems.
“We were pleased to welcome Minister Moridi and his staff to our Davis campus, and showcase the innovative work carried out by our faculty and students in CAMDT,” said Dr. Jeff Zabudsky, Sheridan President and CEO.
The tour included lively interaction between Minister Moridi and Sheridan students, faculty and staff. Under the direction of Dr. Farzad Rayegani, the Director of CAMDT, students created a plaque that used 3D printing technology to create a planetary gear mechanism representing the ‘power of collaboration’. It was designed and produced in Sheridan’s Product Innovation Lab (FABLAB) and the plaque was presented as a gift to Minister Moridi.
“Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to tour the CAMDT at Sheridan’s Davis Campus in Brampton. As a scientist myself, I was excited to witness cutting edge technology like the 3D Production System and state-of-the art labs and Robotics Centre,” said Minister Moridi.
“I applaud the collaborative spirit that Sheridan is fostering with local companies while your students get the much needed hands-on experience they need to remain competitive in today’s economy. Sheridan’s reputation of innovation and excellence is well deserved and plays a vital part in making Ontario one of the most innovative jurisdictions in North America.”
