Do You Need Help to Comply with Canada’s New Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL)?

On July 1, 2014, new legislation comes into effect that aims to reduce the flow of unsolicited email/electronic messages or ‘spam’.

An information session about CASL is being planned for the week of June 16. Please stay tuned as more details will be shared once they are available.

You will also be receiving additional information about CASL, including a Q&A document and a checklist that you can use to help you determine if the email you plan to send after July 1 complies with the new law.   Your manager or supervisor may have already shared these documents with you.  If not, you will be receiving these items soon.

If your area requires assistance to send a mass email to your distribution list in order to obtain the ‘express consent’ needed to continue sending Commercial Electronic Messages to your contacts after July 1, you may wish to contact sheridanemail@sheridancollege.ca for assistance.

All Sheridan employees will be expected to understand the basic rules and make case-by-case judgments when sending work-related email from a Sheridan email address.  You will also be asked to update your email signature to ensure it includes all the necessary contact information required by the new law.  Details will also be forthcoming about embedding an ‘unsubscribe’ mechanism in your mass emails.  Sheridan’s Acceptable Use Policy has been updated to reflect these important changes.
