Each spring, Student Advisement hires senior student leaders to take on the role of First Year Connections [FYC] Peer Mentors. During July and August, Peer Mentors call all first year students that will be starting in the Fall semester. Their role is to welcome new students to the college, talk about starting at Sheridan, answer their questions and to invite them to New Student Orientation. This personal connection continues throughout the academic year to support their transition to the college both socially and academically. Often times this phone call can ease student anxiety and equip our new students with the essential information and tools needed to start their Sheridan journey successfully.
Last summer our Peer Mentors were busy making over 21,000 calls and connecting with over 5,300 new students. This year they will be equally as busy with the projected growth in new student enrolment.
