Art and Soul Memories: A painter’s journey into Alzheimer’s

September 19 to October 3, 2014
Monday to Friday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Betts Engell, long-time Oakville artist, passionate advocate for social justice and environmental protection, and former Sheridan early childhood and social service faculty, shared her soul in her paintings. In the exhibition we see a vivid transformation in her art over time as memory and words fail and Betts conveys her inner world in her art. As a social worker she gave permission to a film crew to document her journey into Alzheimer’s. Excerpts from the film (to be released in the fall) will be shown during the exhibition.

Hosted by the Faculty of Applied Health and Community Studies, Art and Soul Memories is on view at the Sheridan Gallery, AA wing, Trafalgar campus, coinciding with the U.N. International Year of the Older Person and National Seniors Day, both celebrated on October 1.
