Sunday, September 28 is the 4th annual Oakville Hope in High Heels event in support of Halton Women’s Place (HWP). This is an opportunity for Sheridan and Oakville communities’ fantastic men to strut their stuff in hot pink high heels (yes, HWP provides shoes in all men’s sizes), as they help us take a stand – quite literally – against violence against women.
The event starts at 10:30 a.m. outside the Oakville Public Library with speeches by Sheridan’s own Jeff Zabudsky and other community leaders. The walk takes about 20 minutes and participants get to enjoy free food care of The Works, music, prizes, optional professional massages and giveaways following the event. Registration is open via the HWP site, at http://www.gifttool.com/athon/AthonDetails?ID=85&AID=2802 and the Sheridan community can register as individuals, or as a member of “Team Sheridan.”
This year, a Sheridan team is being put together to show that its students and staff support educating our community and advocating against violence against women. Led by Jeff Zabudsky, we are asking that all students and staff jump on board with the cause and into those big pink shoes! The men will walk, but ladies are absolutely welcome to help cheer the gents in their progress!
Halton Women’s Place takes in thousands of women and their dependents each year, as they are fleeing abuse and trying to establish new lives. The shelter also offers ongoing psychological and legal counselling to these women and children, but it relies on the support of wonderful community members to function.
