Pulling for United Way

On Tuesday, September 20, 2016, 14 Sheridan staff and faculty joined over 300 people from the Oakville region to kick off Oakville’s United Way’s campaign in their 6th Annual Bus Pull.  United Way Oakville supports many important agencies in the area including Acclaim Health, a Day Program for Alzheimers’ patients and their families, such as Acclaim Health, which is housed at the Trafalgar Campus, next to the Centre for Elder Research.

Sheridan contributed 2 of the 22 teams that faced off against one another pulling two Oakville Transit buses in what turned out to be one of the last hot days of summer. The event raised over $30,000 towards United Way Oakville’s 2016 Campaign, making a good start to their overall campaign goal of $4,500,000. The fastest team was the District 2 Halton Police with a time of 21.8 seconds, but we held our own with times of 26.35 seconds for the Sherricudas (composed of members of Sheridan’s IT team: Michael Mitchell, Stephen Taylor, Ryan Suarez, Vince Bong, David Perreault, Waldo Calderon, Martin Nowakowski, and Wesley Mathieu) and 29.47 seconds for the Shernados (composed of staff and faculty from across Sheridan [Many thanks to Aesha Brown- OneCard Manager, Brandy Strangway- Ancillary Services, Stewart Dick- Advancement and External Relations; Sarah McMahon- FAHCS, Kevin Forest- FAST, and Bethany Osborne- FAHCS – including 2 members of the IT team who pulled twice!]). Nancy Heath, Sheridan College’s United Way Campaign Chair was there cheering on both teams. A big thanks to all who participated and to everyone who supported participants!
