In October 2016, the Toronto Chapter of ASIS International honoured two Sheridan alumni with awards for their academic and professional achievements. Yagana Samim, a 2016 graduate of the Investigation: Public & Private program, received the ‘Security Studies Scholarship’ for her work on extending Ontario Bill-168 to consider micro-aggressions and the precursor behaviour that leads to violent confrontations and harassment in the workplace. Yagana is currently continuing this research through studying a BA in Sociology: Women and Gender Studies, at University of Toronto, Mississauga.
Jason Ball, a Sheridan alumnus from the class of 1994, received the prestigious ‘Security Professional of the Year’ award. This annual award is presented to a security professional who has made an exemplary contribution to the industry in the Greater Toronto area. Jason was nominated by his fellow professionals for his outstanding work over the last two decades in the security industry and for his volunteer service in building opportunities for young professionals and new entrants through his work with ASIS’s Toronto Chapter where he is the Chair of the Education Committee. Jason is also a member of the Program Advisory Council (PAC) for the Investigation: Public & Private program at Sheridan.
The awards were presented during the ‘ASIS Security and Law Enforcement Practitioners of the Year’ luncheon, an annual event to celebrate the service of security and law enforcement professionals in the Greater Toronto region.
