Learning Stories

The Early Childhood Education (ECE) program is extremely proud to share the creation of its very first app in support of our students and the broader ECE community. The Sheridan Learning Stories app in now available on the app store, at no cost to our students and other educators. This app enables educators to document young children’s learning in a strength-based way that makes learning visible to educators, children, families and the community.

Developed in partnership with the Centre for Teaching and Learning, this app has been integrated into the program’s curriculum through in-class learning experiences, assignments and community field placements. We have been sharing the app with child care centres, school boards and other postsecondary institutions across Canada and have had extremely positive feedback with many telling us that they intend to incorporate the Sheridan Learning Stories app into their daily practice.

This means that when our students go out on placement and when they graduate, they will be able to use a tool for pedagogical documentation that has Sheridan’s name on it and that they know well.  We have also received messages of appreciation from our community partners for our willingness to share something that fills a gap between commercially developed, full service programs available for a monthly subscription and the limited availability of  accessible, technological tools to support effective and efficient pedagogical documentation in the classroom.

The Centre for Teaching and Learning has been instrumental in making this possible and we encourage other programs to make use of the extraordinary resources available to us at Sheridan.
