workshopOn Wednesday, February 27, faculty and staff from across Sheridan participated in a workshop with Dr. Tara Harvey of TrueNorth Intercultural on “Developing Intercultural Intelligence.”

The group of 25, including people from each of the Faculties, as well as Student Affairs, the Libraries, the Centre for Teaching and Learning, the International Centre, and the Centre for Equity and Inclusion, shared a learning experience that deepened their perception of themselves and the cultures that flow through each of us. They also gained an understanding of the Intercultural Development curve, and how thinking through the lens of this theory can help build the inclusivity of our learning community.

Dr. Harvey has also been working with members of Sheridan’s leadership team, providing 1:1 coaching on Intercultural Development. Likewise, staff in the International Centre, Centre for Equity and Inclusion, and Student Affairs have enrolled in TrueNorth’s “Foundations of Intercultural Teaching and Learning” 10-week online course. Feedback thus far has been very strong. Not only have learners gained insight into their own cultural perspectives, but also into how we might engage colleagues and students across Sheridan in building our intercultural perspectives.

During the month of March, the International Centre will lead reflections on how Sheridan can further develop our community’s Intercultural Intelligence. If you’d like further information, please contact Mike Allcott, Dean, International, at mike.allcott@sheridancollege.ca
