In celebration and support of our LGBTQ+ community here at Sheridan and all over the world, several Sheridan departments have partnered through the Sheridan Building Positive Space Committee and Sheridan Student Union to plan Sheridan Pride Week 2019, which will be taking place April 1 – 5 , 2019.

The theme this year is Breaking Down Barriers, with the goal of exploring the many pieces that form peoples’ identities and the different barriers they may face within the community.

If you or your department are interested in getting involved through your own initiatives, or by supporting the initiatives of others, please contact Margaret Sanderson, Centre for Equity and Inclusion at equity@sheridancollege.ca or ext. 2229, or Cory Haslett at cory.haslett@sheridancollege.ca

Highlighted current initiatives planned for the week include an interactive art exhibit at Trafalgar Library, “Autism Acceptance Day” pop-ups on April 4, and various evening and late afternoon events led by student clubs.

In addition, the week will tie into a social media empowerment campaign where people are encouraged to share their stories – with attention to people’s complex and multi-faceted identities, how this impacts their experiences, and the potential barriers they face in the LGBTQ+ community and society as a whole.

We invite you to share what makes you #ProudToBe. If you are a member of the LGBTQ+ community and wish to share your story, please get in touch with Margaret and Cory for more information.

In order to ensure every piece of the week can be included in the larger narrative, or if you wish to share your story, we ask that you contact us to connect on what you will be doing, by March 14 at the latest.
